The Quiet Mind: It Puts Your Playing into a New Gear

The ideal performance state is characterized by a "quiet mind" that results in less cortical interference with the (subcortical) motor control centers and in consistent and efficient execution on motor performance.

The Quiet Mind has 6 characteristics:

1. Absence of fear- no fear of failure

2. No thinking about or analysis of performance (related to the motor stage of automaticity)

3. A narrow focus of attention concentrated on the activity itself (e.g. catching and holding onto the football without fear that you'll get crunched a split second later.)

4. A sense of effortlessness- an involuntary experience. Your skill and conditioning preparation is so complete that now you just "let it happen"

5. A sense of personal control and confidence

6. A distortion of time and space, in which time seems to slow. You can see the baseball seams rotating, you can anticipate defender's movements, you can see several plays ahead of everyone else.

To perform well, you must be relaxed enough to allow the natural timing and coordination to flow with the movement of the game. When you are in the flow, every movement feels right. Your critical and doubting mind can be bypassed to allow yourself to perform to the fullest potential. Above all, a playful sporting attitude helps you remember that your sport is to be enjoyed.

Galt Lady Hoops

We must put in the time and hard work if we want to reach our goals.  SVC Championship, and State Championship.  We can do it if we put our mind to it!

Let’s Keep Working, Re-focus on our DEFENSE!!

Varsity girls….You guys must keep your heads up!  We know it takes hard work to strive for perfection.  As a basketball player you can never be satisfied with your game.  There is always something that needs to be fine-tuned or worked on.  For some of you it is all about your CONFIDENCE.  You have to realize that you practice hard for a reason, that is to become successful during a game.  We cannot stop shooting, NO, the answer is to shoot more and put in a little extra time.  Even if you stay after practice 10 minutes and shoot 50-100 extra shots, freethrows, layups, ball handling, etc.  That is an extra 10 minutes you are getting better than someone else.

We are a young inexperienced team, so we have nothing to lose.  I need to do a better job of supporting and coaching you girls.  The pressure needs to be taken off a bit from my end so that you guys can play more relaxed and confident.  But, on the other side of it, you guys have to bring the work ethic and effort to the gym every day and every game.  Your attitude has to be my attitude, never satisfied, refuse to lose, play good basketball, PLAY DEFENSE!!!  Every possession has to matter to you.  Let’s go a little harder in practice and good things will happen.

Here we Go!

Okay!!  We are off to a great start to our season.  Everyone has been working hard to this point on Freshman, JV and Varisty teams.  What I am trying to remind all of you is that you are part of a great TEAM.  You need to stay humble, stay focused, and work hard every day.  There is no room for any bad attitudes or prima donna’s in this program.  Just keep working hard and pushing each other to get better.  Remember what our ultimate goals are,  SVC Championship, and State Championship.  Hard work, dedication and confidence.

ACADEMICS!

Just a little note to remind all of you to stay on top of your academics!  It isn’t easy to juggle family, basketball, academics, and social life.  You have to learn how to manage your time so that you can devote time to school, be respectful at home, and stay dedicated to your team and teammates.  If you feel yourself slipping ask for help before it is too late.  You probably aren’t the only one feeling stressed.  Go Galt Lady Hoops!

The only way to get better…

The only way we are going to get better is if you girls PRACTICE.  I don’t mean 4 hours a week.  You have to take this game serious.  I want people on my team that have the same passion for the game as I do.

There are no excuses in this game.  You have the ability to make yourself better than the next person.

You all need to take a basketball and dribble it every day.  You need to watch good basketball and try to learn the game to the best of your ability.  You need to go out on the weekends and shoot 500 shots and work on your ball handling.

If it is that important to you to be the best you can be.  Why settle for less?  I am tired of seeing the same old thing game after game, aren’t you?  2 practices per week (4 hours of practice per week) is not going to do it for you girls.  We work on things in practice that you need to continue to work on outside of practice.

I need and want players who want to be the best.  You and I can’t settle for less.  If you can’t make that commitment to the game and the team, some changes will have to be made in the future.  You should approach your everyday life the same way.  If you study and prepare for your schoolwork or job you will be successful.  If there is room for advancement and you put the time in, you will advance.

I need to know that each and every one of my players has a passion for the game of basketball and life.  It means that much to me.  Does it to you?  Do you really want to be successful when you step onto the court?

There is no excuse for not being able to dribble with your left hand or not being able to make 75-80% of your freethrows or not being able to finish 5 foot shots consistently or not being able to pass or play consistent defense.  No more excuses.  Either you take your weaknesses seriously and address them yourself or you don’t play.

I want to get to a championship level, it is going to take some more commitment and dedication from each and every player and coach in this Galt Lady Hoops Program to do that.  We will get there.  Ask yourself if you want to be part of it.
